India, US annual combat exerciseYudh Abhyas 2018to be held at Uttarakhand

The 2-Week long Yudh Abhyas 2018 exercise will be condcuted at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand from 16 to 29 September, 2018. It will be fourteenth edition of exercise in Yudh Abhyas series which was started in 2004 under US Army Pacific Partnership Program. Last year, Yudh Abhyas was held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the US.

Nepal to join military drill with China after snubbing India

Nepal will take part in a 12-day-long ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2’ military exercise with China. The exercise will be held from September 17 to 28 in China’s Chengdu city. This comes after Nepal withdrew from the first-ever Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) military drill in India.

Scientists have developed drug to treat TB in future

Scientists from the University of Manchester, England, have developed a non-antibiotic drug that can one day treat tuberculosis (TB) in humans effectively. The drug targets Mycobacterium tuberculosis’ defences rather than the bacteria itself. In the study, published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, animals with acute and chronic TB infection were treated with the compound. The results revealed that the compound does not kill the bacteria directly, but results in a significant reduction in the bacterial burden. It can also take out its increasingly commonly antibiotic-resistant strains. The scientists hope for clinical trials in humans up in four years.

China and Russia to work together to link the Russian far east

China and Russia intend to work together to link the Russian far east with the Asia-Pacific as part of a larger Eurasian integration plan. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, a coastal city in Russia’s resource-rich far east, to discuss plans for developing the region. Russia-China Investment Fund (RCIF) announced that a group of Russian and Chinese businesses are planning for 73 joint investment projects. The project costs more than $100 billion. Anil Agarwal called to resume mining in Goa against the slide of Rupee

Anil Agarwal, the Executive Chairman of Vedanta Group, expressed his concern for the resumption of iron ore mining in Goa over heavy imports of natural resources leading to the rupee’s decline. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had cancelled all iron ore mining permits in Goa. This majorly affected Vedanta Ltd. as it is the biggest iron ore miner in the State. UN alarms the rise of global hunger due to climate change

The United Nations said that the number of hungry people in the world is growing again. In much of the developing world, it is due to climate change that causes havoc on crop production. South America and Africa face acute food insecurity and malnutrition. UN agencies said in an annual report that the number of hungry people facing chronic food deprivation increased to 821 million in 2017 from 804 million in 2016. The analysis in the report found that climate variability, extreme drought and floods are the reasons that affect the production of wheat, rice and maize in tropical and temperate regions. India to supply 160 railway coaches to Sri Lanka
