Indian Air Force plans to set up a ‘strategic base’ in Andhra Pradesh

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has proposed to the Andhra government its plans to establish a drone manufacturing facility in Anantapur district, a cyber security centre in Amaravati, and turn Rajahmundry and Vijayawada airports into asset positioning bases. IAF also plans to set up a major helicopter training facility at Donakonda in Prakasam district. IAF currently has a base at Arakkonam near Chennai, while the Navy has INS Dega in Visakhapatnam.

Ola enters New Zealand

Ola, the Indian ride-hailing company, unveiled its plan to extend its territory to New Zealand. The service will first begin in Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington. Ola offers the service with a commission rate of 9%. The company is to pay drivers daily rather than weekly in order to benefit the drivers. The company earlier launched its service in Australia in February and the U.K. in August. It said that it enables smart transportation to over 125 million users in India, Australia and the U.K.

Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma signed as ambassadors of Skill India Campaign

The two stars of the film ‘Sui Dhaaga – Made in India’, have been signed on to promote and endorse the Skill India Mission (SIM), chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Skill India Mission is led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and aims to standardise vocational training.

India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline Project inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the construction of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline Project through video conferencing. The 130-kilometre-long pipeline will connect Siliguri in West Bengal and Parbatipur in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district, and will be used for importing oil. The third and fourth Dual Gauge line of Dhaka-Tongi section and Dual Gauge Double line of Tongi-Joydevpur section of Bangladesh Railway were also inaugurated.

DAC approved for the enhancement of Akash missiles

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) gave its approval for the upgradation of the indigenously developed Akash short-range surface-to-air missile (SRSAM) system. Akash missile was to be inducted by the Army. This approval will let Akash missile to be upgraded. The upgraded version will have the seeker technology and the coverage will be of 360-degree. It will have a compact configuration. To provide protection to vital assets, the operation of the missile has been made critical. About Akash Missile: It was developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme initiated in 1984 It was manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) The range of the missile is 25 km and can engage multiple targets at a time in all-weather conditions It has a large operational envelope, from 30 meter to a maximum of 20 km All regiment in the missile consists of six launchers, each having three missiles

Kamlesh Nilakanth Vyas is appointed as the Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission

Kamlesh Nilakanth Vyas, Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, has been appointed as the Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and the Secretary of Department of Atomic Energy. His tenure will end on May 2021. He has replaced Shekhar Basu. Mr.Vyas is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from MS University, Vadodara. He underwent training in BARC training school in 1979, he joined Fuel Design and Development Section of Reactor Engineering Division of BARC. He is an expert in thermal hydraulics and stress analysis of critical reactor core components. He was awarded the Indian Nuclear Society Outstanding Service Award 2011, Homi Bhabha Science and Technology Award 2006, DAE Awards in the years 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013.

ISRO launched its technology incubation centre in Agartala, Tripura

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched a space technology incubation centre in Agartala, Tripura. It was inaugurated from Bengaluru. The centre at Agartala is the first of six such centres which are planned to build capacity in new locations. It is aimed to have a good presence in academia and industry. These space research activities are to tap the talents of the locations and include them in the space footprint. ISRO’s Capacity Building Programme directorate is to invest Rs.2 crore for such centres in Jalandhar, Bhubaneswar, Tiruchi, Nagpur and Indore. These centres will not have activities related to space.

NaMo app introduces micro donation platform

In NaMo app, the BJP has launched three new features, a volunteer platform, merchandise and micro-donations for the persistent demand from active users of the platform. The volunteer can donate starting from a minimum of Rs.5 with amounts of Rs.50, Rs.500 and Rs.1,000. The fund will be used for the Clean Ganga project. This new volunteer platform has been introduced for the general 2019 elections. It also has other sections that have multiple items like T-shirts, mugs, caps, notebooks, etc. This app will act as a central avenue for all volunteering activities and give multiple options for online and on-ground volunteering activities.

SEBI Approves New KYC Norms For FPIs, Revised Settlement Mechanism

They approved a proposal to allow foreign investors to trade in commodity derivatives market, except for sensitive commodities, as well as a common application form for the registration of FPIs in the domestic market. Two unique projects including Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse project inaugurated by S&T minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi

The two projects are Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse (LOTUSHR) project and toilets supported by DBT-BIRAC and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is a joint initiative of Indian and Dutch scientists. Functions of the LOTUS project: Produce clean water from the urban wastewater Reused the clean water for various purposes, Recover the nutrients and energy of the wastewater.

SBI to run 10,000 ATMs on solar energy in Two years

At present, the State Bank of India (SBI) has 1,200 ATMs which run on solar power. SBI is also planning to replace all its vehicles with electric vehicles by 2030. Aim:- To become carbon neutral and to achieve it by 2030. SBI is organising a green marathon starting September 30, to be held in 15 cities across the country. SBI has nearly 59,000 ATMs in India.

Three day First-ever global India Tourism Mart held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi

It was inaugurated in presence of Union Tourism Minister, Shri K J Alphons and Tourism Minister of Morocco, Mr. Mohamed Sajid. The main Objective is to create an annual Global Tourism Mart for India It was organized by Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) and State /UT Governments. According to the report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the National Election Watch, Sitting MLAs across the country have declared an average annual income of ₹24.59 lakh. Chhattisgarh MLAs earn the lowest with their average annual income coming at ₹5.4 lakh.
