In a Remarkable Achievement, India gets its 37th WORLD UNESCO World HERITAGE SITE.

In yet another landmark achievement, India’s nomination of the “Victorian and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai ” has been inscribed on  UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The decision was taken at the 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO at Manama in Bahrain today. As recommended by the World Heritage Committee, India accepted the renaming of the ensemble as “Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai”

Government of India is celebrating the 1st Anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) coming into force, here tomorrow. GST was launched on the 1st July, 2017 in a majestic ceremony held in the Central Hall of Parliament on the midnight of 30th June, 2017. The first year has been remarkable both for the sheer variety of challenges that its implementation has thrown up and for the willingness and ability of policy makers and tax administrators to rise up to these challenges and respond befittingly.

Tourism Minister inaugurates the Jodhpur Institute of Hospitality Management

The Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism Shri. K.J. Alphons inaugurated the Institute of Hospitality Management in Jodhpur today.

In his inaugural speech,the Minister highlighted that India is among the fastest growing Tourism economy in the world and in 2017, the Indian tourism receipts went up by 20.8% against a global growth rate of 7%. Shri. K. J. Alphons hoped that in three years we will be able to double the revenue from foreign tourists.

NRDC to establish ten outreach centres to engage with start-ups

National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) will establish 10 outreach centres in the next one year to engage with start-up eco-system in India.

These centres will be set up in a phased manner across ten locations. In the first phase, centres will be established in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata and Guwahati.

Money in Swiss banks: India moves up to 73rd place

India has moved up to 73rd place in terms of money parked by its citizens and companies with Swiss banks, while the UK remains on the top.

India had slipped to 88th place with a 44 per cent plunge in such funds during 2016, but the latest data from the Swiss National Bank (SNB) shows an increase of over 50 per cent during 2017 to CHF 1.01 billion (about Rs 7,000 crore).

GNFC, NITI Aayog join hands to research on Blockchain tech

Niti Aayog and fertiliser major Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) on Saturday entered into an agreement to undertake joint research and exchange and disseminate learnings to use BlockchainTechnology for fertiliser subsidy management.

The two bodies signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) to work together towards implementing a Proof-of-Concept (POC) application. Under the SOI, the two organisations would also undertake interaction and discussions on use of block chain technology for specific needs of fertiliser subsidy management. Insights and outcomes of the POC will enable NITI Aayog to suggest policy recommendations and actions in strengthening the subsidy mechanism, making it more transparent and immune to leakages.

Haryana Government is going to host 2018 World Union of Wholesale Markets

Haryana will host 33rd World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Conference in Gurugram from October 10-13 this year. Heads of 200 mandis from across the world will participate in this Conference. Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board will organise this conference. Countries from Asia, North and South America, Africa and Europe will also participate in the conference. Information related to reforms all over the world will be shared so that India could move towards a single unified world market.

BSE, BME tie-up to develop commodity derivatives markets

Premier stock exchange BSE has entered into an agreement with the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) for the growth and systematic development of commodity derivatives markets in the non-ferrous metals complex.

Through this memorandum of understanding (MoU), the BSE and the BME will co-ordinate and work jointly on initiatives to deepen the understanding of commodity market among stakeholder.

DISHA Week is being celebrated from 25th to 29th June

District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) is named as “DISHA” by the Ministry of Rural Development. To mark the successful completion of 2 years of the DISHA, the Union Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Mines, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, held wide ranging discussions on the DISHA initiative with Special Secretaries of the states/ UTs at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Chhattisgarh is among the five States which received an “award of appreciation” for exemplary work towards regular holding of DISHA meetings. The other States include Jharkhand, Kerala, Mizoram and Uttarakhand.

India increases GEF grants to 15 million dollar from 12 million dollar

India will increase the money it pays to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for the next four years to $15 million, from the $12 million currently. India has decided to increase its commitments to the GEF’s new four-year investment cycle, known as GEF-7. India is among the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change. India is both a donor and a recipient of grants from the GEF, which an international partnership of 183 countries.

China conducts drill in Tibet 1st time since Doklam standoff

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted a drill in Tibet “to test their logistics and armament support capabilities. This was reportedly the first drill carried out by China in Tibet since the Doklam standoff with India last year. The drill was a move towards enhancing military-civilian integration in the region.

Asian Games gold medalist Mary Kom to skip 2018 Asian Games

Indian boxer Mary Kom, who won a gold medal in the 51 kg category at the Asian Games in 2014, is set to skip the 2018 edition of the championship. She will focus on securing gold in the next World Championships in the 48 kg category, a category that won’t feature in 2018 edition of the Asian Games.

Govt notifies Electoral Bond Scheme 2018 via Gazette Notification

As per provisions of the Scheme, Electoral Bonds may be purchased by a person, who is a citizen of India or incorporated or established in India. A person being an individual can buy Electoral Bonds, either singly or jointly with other individuals. Only the Political Parties registered under Section 29A of Representation of People Act, 1951 & which secured not less than 1% of the votes polled in last General Election or the Legislative Assembly of the State, shall be eligible to receive Electoral Bonds. Electoral Bonds shall be encashed by an eligible Political Party only through a Bank account with the Authorized Bank. Electoral Bonds shall be valid for fifteen calendar days from the date of issue and no payment shall be made to any payee Political Party if the Electoral Bond is deposited after expiry of the validity period. The Electoral Bond deposited by an eligible Political Party in its account shall be credited on the same day.

Antonio Vitorino from Portugal elected as new Director General of UN migration agency

Antonio Manuel de Carvalho Ferreira Vitorino of Portugal was elected by the member States of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to serve as the agency’s Director General, beginning on 1 October 2018. He succeeds William Lacy Swing of the United States, who will have served two five-year terms as IOM chief. Established in 1951, IOM had been an observer to the UN since 1992.

Nissan signs MoU with Kerala government for digital hub

Nissan Motor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Kerala to establish a new global center for its digital operations in India. The Nissan Digital Hub in Kerala will serve as an important engine to drive Nissan’s global digital transformation. The hub also seeks in transforming Nissan’s global business by placing digital technology at its operations and service. Madhya Pradesh has been registered an unprecedented 48-digit decline in maternal deaths as per the report of the Registrar General of India from 2014 to 2016. Under Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign, Madhya Pradesh will be awarded for reducing maternal mortality. The Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign has been launched to ensure quality of care of over 3 crore pregnant women of the country before delivery.
