Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff visits Tehran, Iran for Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) – 2018

The 6th edition of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) and Conclave of Chiefs is being hosted by Iran at Tehran from 23 to 25 April 2018. The Chief of the Naval Staff is leading a four member Indian delegation for the event.

The IONS was conceived by the Indian Navy in 2008. The forum seeks to enhance maritime cooperation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion on regionally relevant maritime issues that would lead to common understanding on the way ahead. The inaugural edition of IONS was held in February 2008 at New Delhi, with Indian Navy as the Chair for two years. This was followed by UAE from 2010 – 2012, South Africa from 2012 – 2014, Australia from   2014 – 2016 and Bangladesh from 2016 – 2018.

 

EAM Sushma Swaraj Left For China On 4-Day Visit For SCO Meet

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj left for China on a four-day visit. She will participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). She will hold talks with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. This will be Ms. Swaraj’s first meeting with Wang after he was elevated to be the state councilor. The visit is aimed at elevating the China-India strategic cooperation partnership.

 

Cabinet approves Ordinance to allow death penalty for child rape

Seeing the rage over rapes of children in the country, the Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday approved the promulgation of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018 for Death to child rapists.

​Government said it has taken serious note of incidents of rape in various parts of the country. While expressing deep anguish over such incidents, it has been decided to devise a comprehensive response to deal with the situation.

 

Taipei Opens WTC In Delhi To Boost Ties With India

With an aim to strengthen trade ties with India, Taipei World Trade Centre (TWTC) launched its office in Delhi, ahead of Taiwan’s first-ever expo that will showcase cutting-edge technology and smart city solutions in Delhi in May 2018. The Presence of TWTC in Delhi will further help strengthen business ties with India. Bilateral trade between India and Taiwan has increased to $6.3 billion in December 2017.

 

Weatherseal sets up first experiential store in Hyderabad

Weatherseal, a company engaged in UPVC door and window systems, has set up its first experiential store in Hyderabad. The Bengaluru-based company plans to expand its network across the country with a franchise model.

Harish Munireddy, Founder & CEO, Weatherseal, in a statement said, “We have been growing at more than 100 per cent every year. Demand from residential apartments and development of smart cities has facilitated the growth of the uPVC Doors and windows industry in India.”

 

Journalists holding yellow cards in Punjab to get accidental insurance cover worth Rs 5 lakh

The Punjab government led by CM Captain Amarinder Singh approved the extension of the facility of accidental insurance cover to nearly accredited 4200 media persons with yellow cards. Notably, from now onwards yellow card holder journalist would be covered under accidental insurance to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh. The extension of the facility of accidental insurance cover to media persons holding yellow cards was amongst Captain Amarinder Singh’s poll promises.  A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that every accredited and yellow card holder journalist in the state would be covered under accidental insurance to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh. The United India Insurance Company has been selected, through the tendering process, by the Department of Information and Public Relations, and an agreement is expected to be signed soon to this effect, the spokesperson added

 

Maharashtra to install 2500 plastic bottle crushing machines

The Maharashtra government will install 2,500 plastic bottle crushing machines across the state to ensure proper disposal of plastic bottles. The machines will be purchased under Corporate Social Responsibility funds and installed
at public places including tourist spots, markets, and gardens with high footfall.

 

Madras High Court introduces e-court fee payment

The Madras High Court became the first court in south India and eighth in the country to introduce e-court fee payment facility. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Chief Justice Indira Banerjee jointly launched the facility at the principal seat of the High Court here as well as its Madurai Bench.

 

ICICI Bank launches digital form for opening current accounts

Private sector lender ICICI Bank has introduced a ‘digital form’ which will help open current accounts in a few hours.
Bank officials can now capture information about the customer and the business digitally and verify KYC documents in real-time, at the premise of the customer.

Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani and human rights lawyer Indira Jaising have been named by Fortune magazine as the World’s Greatest Leaders of 2018.
The Fortune’s 2018 ranking of the 50 Greatest Leaders released also has architect Balkrishna Doshi in the list which includes Apple CEO Tim Cook, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and football coach Nick Saban.

Indian animation pioneer and multiple National Award winner Bhimsain Khurana had passed away. He was 82. Khurana was known for films like “Gharaonda” and for iconic animation shorts like “Ek Anek Ekta”
