Government of India,Government of Maharashtra and the World Bank sign New Project to benefit over 25 Million Small and Marginal Farmers in Maharashtra.

The Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and the World Bank signed here today a US$ 420 million project to help Small and Marginal farmers in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra. The project will help inincreasing climate resilient practices in agriculture and ensuring that farming continues to remain a financially viable activity for them.

The aforesaidproject is expected to benefit over 7 million people spread over an area of 3.0 million ha and cover 5,142 villages across 15 most climate vulnerable districts of the region.The $420 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), has a 6-year grace period, and a maturity of 24 years.

 

Shri J P Nadda inaugurates 69th Foundation Day celebration of Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI)

Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the 69th Foundation Day celebrations of the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), here today. At the function, the Union Health Minister released a compendium on the list of Research Publications of VPCI from 1949-2017 and also unveiled the ‘Daily Digital Pollen Count Information for Public’. Prof Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, New Delhi and Prof. Yogesh K Tyagi, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi, were also present at the event.

 

Khadi Store Locator App Launched

The 9th National Board of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) met today in New Delhi. The Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh chaired the meeting. The Minister launched a mobile phone application for locating 4,000 Khadi stores in the country. There are more than 8,000 Khadistores in India, the rest of stores will also be available on the store locater by the end of this month. This was informed by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman KVIC in the board meeting today.

 

4th National Workshop for Training on Autism Started in New Delhi

The three day National Workshop for Training of Master Trainers on AutismTools- INCLEN and ISAA for Diagnosis and Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Childrenhas started in VigyanBhawan, New Delhi today. The Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) , Smt. Shakuntala D.Gamlin, inaugurated the workshop in presence of Dr. K.  K. Pandey, Chairman, National Trust,ShriMukesh Jain, JS & CEO, National Trust, and various stakeholders associated. The workshop is organised by the National Trust under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowermentin collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi.The objective of this workshop is to make Doctors from across the country aware about Autism Tools to describe the diagnostic criteria as well as to clinically evaluate a child with suspected autism spectrum disorder using Autism Tools.

 

Cisco to set up start-up incubator in IoT domain at Kerala institute

Global IT networking major Cisco will set up an incubator for start-ups in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain at the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) here.

Shrikant Sinha, CEO, Nasscom Foundation, a partner in the endeavour, and Paul Antony, Chief Secretary, signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan

 

India becomes second largest manufacturer of crude steel

According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India overtook Japan to become world’s second largest producer of crude steel. China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world, accounting for more than 50% of the production. India’s crude steel production stood at 93.11 million tonnes (MT) for period April 2017 to February 2018 and was up 4.4% as compared with April 2016.

 

Union Government constitutes committee to regulate news portals

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) constituted a 10-member committee to regulate online portals, including news websites, entertainment. The committee will include secretaries of departments of Home, Electronics and Information and Technology, Legal Affairs and Industrial Policy. The committee will look to bring online information dissemination under regulation. It will propose a policy for foreign direct investment (FDI).

 

FIEO and PayPal signed MoU

Digital payments company PayPal and the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) signed an agreement for the promotion of outbound shipments among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) leveraging the partners’ expertise and technology products. As part of the agreement, PayPal will work with FIEO to educate SMEs on how to leverage global opportunities help them receive money in a safe and timely manner with PayPal products. FIEO contributes to more than 70% of India’s exports.

 

Qatar allows women to join national service amidst intensified diplomatic blockade by Arab quartet

Qatar took a huge step of introducing women to join national service and also extended the time served in the military by conscripted men. The Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed a legislation Women aged over 18 will be able to volunteer for national service while men will now serve a year instead of three months.” The new law came into effect on the immediate basis. The state-run News Agency of Qatar said, “National service for females is voluntary,” adding that every Qatari male between 18 and 35 is required to perform a compulsory military service. However, it is the first time in Qatar that women had been allowed to undertake national service, although some women already serve in the military in administrative roles.

 

RH300 sounding rocket launched for atmospheric studies

The RH-300 MKII sounding rocket developed by IRSO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) was successfully launched from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launch. The rocket was launched by VSSC under Sounding Rocket Experiment (SOUREX) programme for atmospheric studies. It utilizes this rocket to study the Equator.

 

Mithali Raj Becomes Most Capped Player In Women’s ODIs

Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj become the most capped player in women’s ODI cricket after turning out for the 192nd time against England. Raj, who is also the highest run-getter in WODIs, overtook former England captain Charlotte Edwards, who had appeared in 191 WODIs. Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami is the third-most capped WODI player.
