NITI Aayog launches Women Entrepreneurship Platform on International Women’s Day

NITI Aayog launched the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), on the occasion of International Women’s Day today. The initiative is aimed at building an ecosystem for women across India to realize their entrepreneurial aspirations, scale-up innovative initiatives and chalk-out sustainable, long-term strategies for their businesses

 

PM launches National Nutrition Mission, and pan India expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launched the National Nutrition Mission and Pan India Expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) covering all 640 districts of the Country at a mega event held at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan today.

The Prime Minister also awarded ten districts for showing outstanding performance in the areas of effective community engagement, enforcement of PC&PNDT Act and enabling education of the girl child.

 

Inland Waterways Authority of India proposes to develop a“freight village” in Varanasi

The Inland Waterways Authority of India proposes to develop a“freight village” in Varanasi. The objective of the project is to support economic development in the hinterland of the multimodal terminal at Varanasi and reduce logistics cost in the Eastern Transport Corridor and its influence zone.  It envisages establishment of multimodal logistics hub in Varanasi to promote the use of waterway transport on river Ganga (NW-1) between Haldia and Varanasi and of rail transport on Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) in the North bound direction which facilitates movement of freight from road to water and rail.

 

Udyam Sakhi Portal Launched for Women Entrepreneurs

On the occasion of International Women’s Day today, March 8,the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME) launched a portal for women entrepreneursof India: www.udyamsakhi.org. The portal was unveiled by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of MSME, Giriraj Singh, in a program today at the Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The Minister said that India has around 8 million women who have started and are running their own businesses and the Ministry of MSME believes that the women in India can play a vital role in the growth of the Indian economy.

 

Government has approved setting up of 9 Research Parks in IIT’s

Government has approved setting up of 9 Research Parks one each at IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IISc Bangalore.  IIT Madras Research Park, which is fully functional with 43 R&D clients, 4 Incubators, 55 Startups, and 5 Centres of Excellence was established at a total cost of Rs. 447.66 crore, which includes grants-in-aid of Rs.137 crore from the Government. The Research parks at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay are under construction at a cost of Rs.100 crore each, out of which a sum of Rs.100 crore has been released to IIT Kharagpur and Rs.33 crore to IIT Bombay. IIT Gandhinagar Research Park currently under construction has been approved at a cost of Rs.90 crore with full funding from the Department of Science & Technology, which has released a sum of Rs.40 crore as on date.  Remaining five new Research Parks have been approved recently at a cost of Rs.75 crore each, out of which, a sum of Rs.5 crore each has been released.

Direct Tax collections for F.Y. 2017-2018 show growth of 19.5% up to february, 2018

The provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to February, 2018 show that net collections are at Rs.7.44 lakh crore which is 19.5% higher than the net collections for the corresponding period of last year.

 The net Direct Tax collections represent 74.3% of the Revised Estimates of Direct Taxes for
​the Financial Year 2017-18 which stand at Rs. 10.05 lakh crore.

Gross collections (before adjusting for refunds) have increased by 14.5% to Rs.8.83 lakh crore during April 2017 to February 2018. Refunds amounting to Rs.1.39 lakh crore have been issued during April 2017 to February 2018.

 

Government announces launch of ‘SUVIDHA’ – Rs. 2.50, 100% Oxo-biodegradable Sanitary Napkin – under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)

Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Ananthkumar announced the launch of ‘Suvidha’, the 100% Oxo-biodegradable Sanitary Napkin, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), here today. The affordable sanitary napkin will be available for Rs. 2.50 per padat over 3200 Janaushadhi Kendrasacross India and would ensure ‘Swachhta, Swasthya and Suvidha’for the underprivileged Women of India. This step taken by the Department of Pharmaceuticals will ensure the achievement of Prime Minster Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Affordable and Quality Healthcare for All, the Minister said while addressing the media.

 

IIIDEM organizes 12-day training programme on ‘Capacity Development for Election Management’ for ITEC countries, in association with MEA

The India International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) is conducting a training programme on ‘Capacity Development for Election Management’ under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. The programme is being held from 5thto 16th March, 2018. As many as 29 senior and mid-level officials from EMBs of 21 ITEC countries are participating in the programme.

 

Maxxis Tyres launches first Indian plant, to invest ₹2,640 cr

Maxxis Rubber India, a unit of Taiwan-based Maxxis Group, on Wednesday launched its first manufacturing plant at Sanand, Gujarat with an investment of around 2,640 crore.

Of the entire investment of $400 million (around 2,640 crore), the company has invested $320 million initially for its first phase, which will have a production capacity of 20,000 two-wheeler tyres and 40,000 tubes a day, according to company spokesperson Jia-Ciao Liou.

 

Lupin signs research pact with CSIR-NCL, Dept of Science & Tech

Pharma major Lupin has signed an agreement with CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL, Pune) and Department of Science and Technology, (DST, Delhi) for conducting research on a continuous purification process development of a biosimilar monoclonal antibody therapeutic (mAb).

Through this research collaboration, CSIR-NCL and Lupin would together work towards the development of a novel continuous purification process for manufacturing mAb therapeutics.
